A black belt, member of the Serbian Special Anti-Terrorist Unit, (SAJ) Jovica is no stranger to strenuous demands that require the utmost physical and mental fitness. As Jovica considers the SAJ -- and particularly the selection process it requires -- one of the most poignant tests of psychological stability and resistance to stress.
But for Jovica, ultrarunning is no different, which is what draws him to races like the Serbian 24H National Championships, European and World Ultrarunning Championships, UltraMilano-Sanremo where the physical and mental demands of the race are tremendous.
Jovica’s background is in martial arts, where he holds black belts in jiu-jitsu and judo. Practicing martial arts requires the utmost discipline and helped form the character and personality traits required to perform well in ultramarathons.
According to Jovica, “I find motivation in small things and people around me. I try to motivate other people with my own example, to start training and running, at least for their health and recreation. Constant pushing of the endurance limits is another thing that motivates me, as well as my responsibility towards my own family, country and special unit.”
And it is this responsibility to his country that will drive Spajic in the Icarus Florida UltraFest, as his goal is to “beat a national record.” But however driven Jovica is, those who meet him on the course can expect a friendly smile and nice conversation, as meeting and socializing with fellow runners is a large part of what he enjoys about the sport.

Nosiocu crnog pojasa, članu srpske Specijalne antiterorističke jedinice ( SAJ ), Jovici nisu nepoznati naporni zahtevi koji iziskuju krajnju fizičku i mentalnu pripremljenost.
Kako kaže Jovica: „ Motivaciju nalazim u malim stvarima i ljudima koji me okružuju.
